Vitalik Buterin outlines conditions for a self-sustaining, quantum-safe Ethereum

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has established a set of seven technical conditions necessary for the network to reach maturity and become self-sustaining, allowing core developers to theoretically step away. A non-negotiable priority among these is achieving pre-emptive quantum-resistance to ensure security for a hundred years, cautioning against delaying this for short-term efficiencies. Other required pillars for protocol ossification include an architecture capable of scaling to thousands of transactions per second using ZK-EVM validation and PeerDAS, and a durable state management system via statelessness and state expiry. Buterin also called for a fully abstracted account model replacing ECDSA, a DoS-resistant gas schedule, a refined Proof-of-Stake economic model for decentralization, and a censorship-resistant block-building mechanism. He advocates for a staged approach, aiming to complete at least one requirement annually, favoring parameter adjustments over frequent hard forks for future changes.
