Ripple secures FCA authorization, clearing path for UK expansion

Financial technology firm Ripple has successfully secured authorization from the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), specifically receiving an Electronic Money Institution license and crypto asset registration. This approval clears the way for Ripple to expand its payment solutions platform within the United Kingdom. An Electronic Money Institution license permits the firm to issue digital money and payment services, while the crypto registration mandates compliance with anti-money laundering and know-your-customer regulations. Monica Long, president at Ripple, stated that this licensing expansion aims to unlock significant dormant capital by enabling instantaneous value movement. These approvals coincide with the UK's ongoing efforts to establish a comprehensive crypto regulatory framework, intending to regulate crypto assets as financial products by 2027, with the FCA prioritizing areas like stablecoin payments.
