Truebit’s native token TRU plunges 99.9% after $26 million exploit
Summary
Truebit, an Ethereum-based verification and computation protocol, experienced a security breach resulting in the loss of approximately 8,535 ETH, valued at $26.6 million. The exploit is believed to have originated from a vulnerability in a mispriced minting function within an old smart contract deployed about five years ago, allowing attackers to purchase the native TRU tokens cheaply. Two attackers were involved, one gaining about $26 million and the other $250,000. Following the incident, the price of the TRU token plummeted by 99.9%, falling from around $0.16 to $0.00007721. Truebit confirmed they are in contact with law enforcement. This event highlights ongoing DeFi security risks associated with legacy contracts, following other recent exploits in the sector.
