CFTC issues no-action relief, clearing Bitnomial to offer event contracts
Summary
Divisions within the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) have issued a no-action letter to Bitnomial Exchange, LLC, allowing the crypto-focused exchange to offer event contracts without facing enforcement action for non-compliance with specific requirements. Bitnomial plans to list products such as binary and bounded swaps referencing digital assets and economic indicators, provided they are fully collateralized. The exchange must adhere to conditions, including publishing sales data and meeting recordkeeping and reporting requirements. This action follows a trend under previous Acting Chair Caroline Pham, where the CFTC approved similar offerings for firms like Gemini Titan and issued no-action letters for Polymarket US and others. Bitnomial was also the first exchange in December to list regulator-approved spot cryptocurrency products.
