‘A milestone in financial innovation’: Wyoming issues first state-backed stablecoin on Solana
Summary
Wyoming has officially launched the Wyoming Frontier Stable Token ($FRNT), the first publicly available, dollar-pegged, state-issued, blockchain-based asset, operating on the Solana network. The state views this as a significant financial innovation, combining state-managed reserve security with blockchain efficiency and transparency. Unlike private stablecoins, FRNT offers public accountability and transparent oversight, with its overcollateralized holdings kept in a Wyoming trust and invested solely in U.S. dollars and short-duration U.S. Treasuries. Franklin Templeton manages the reserves, and interest generated will fund Wyoming's school program. The token, intended for both retail and institutional use, offers fast settlement, low fees, and instant auditability, and is available for purchase through Kraken.
