Hedge fund Karatage hires IMC veteran Shane O’Callaghan as senior partner

Karatage, a proprietary hedge fund based in London specializing in digital assets and emerging technology, has appointed Shane O'Callaghan as a senior partner and head of institutional strategy. O'Callaghan joins from the Dutch market maker IMC Trading, where he served as global head of institutional partnerships and digital asset sales. Prior to IMC, he held roles at Portofino Technologies and the defunct crypto lender BlockFi. Karatage's co-founder and CEO, Marius Barnett, stated that O'Callaghan's appointment is aimed at building something "bold, aggressive, and genuinely disruptive" and will help the firm execute at a higher level. Karatage, founded in 2017, invests across liquid tokens and longer-term bets on infrastructure companies within the blockchain economy, often taking a thematic approach to backing technologies with structural economic impact. O'Callaghan expressed excitement to join the team to drive the firm's next phase of global institutional expansion.
