Coinbase to pause peso-based services in Argentina just one year after launch

Coinbase announced it will pause its peso-based services in Argentina, including peso-to-USDC trading and local bank withdrawals, starting January 31, 2026, roughly one year after launching there. A spokesperson stated this is a "deliberate pause" to reassess and strengthen their product offering, emphasizing that Latin America remains central to their expansion. Crypto-to-crypto trading will continue, and customer funds are unaffected. This move follows a turbulent year for crypto in Argentina, which included President Javier Milei's endorsement of the controversial LIBRA memecoin, though Coinbase did not cite the political environment as a reason for the pause. Coinbase had officially registered as a Virtual Asset Service Provider in January 2025.
