Cybersecurity experts suggest this wide-net exploitation might stem from a fraudulent email disguised as communication from Web3 wallet MetaMask, prompting warnings for users to revoke smart contract approvals. Furthermore, this incident is potentially linked to the $7 million Trust Wallet hack that occurred on Christmas, which involved a supply chain attack compromising developer secrets. The Trust Wallet incident, which affected its Chrome extension, led Binance to agree to reimburse affected users.
