December Crypto Hacks Down 60% Month-Over-Month: PeckShield

Blockchain security company PeckShield reported that total losses from crypto hacks and exploits fell by 60% in December, amounting to approximately $76 million, down from $194.2 million in November. December saw 26 major exploits, including one user losing $50 million due to an address poisoning scam, where an attacker uses a similar-looking wallet address to trick victims. Another significant loss involved $27.3 million from a multi-signature wallet hack due to a private key leak. Notable attacks included the $7 million drain on Trust Wallet users and a $3.9 million hack on the Flow protocol. PeckShield suggests mitigating address poisoning by meticulously checking every character of a destination address and recommends using hardware wallets for safer offline storage of private keys.
