Happy New Year, Mark Cuban: Judge Dismisses Lawsuit over Voyager Digital

A federal judge in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida dismissed a class-action lawsuit filed by former Voyager Digital investors against Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks. The lawsuit, filed after Voyager's August 2022 bankruptcy, alleged false representations and deceptive conduct regarding the crypto exchange, specifically citing the 2021 partnership deal with the Mavericks. Judge Roy Altman granted the motion to dismiss because the plaintiffs failed to establish personal jurisdiction over Cuban and the Mavericks, noting they did not prove the defendants carried on business in Florida or specifically targeted Florida residents with claims about Voyager. The judge suggested that conspiracy jurisdiction might be more appropriate if Voyager itself were a defendant, but since Cuban and the Mavericks were the sole defendants, the case was dismissed.
