$675M Lighter Airdrop Becomes 10th Largest in Crypto History

Lighter, a decentralized exchange specializing in perpetual futures trading, recently executed a significant token airdrop, distributing $675 million worth of Lighter Infrastructure Tokens (LIT) to early participants. According to Bubblemaps, this airdrop is now the 10th largest in cryptocurrency history by US dollar value, surpassing 1inch Network’s airdrop but falling short of LooksRare’s and Uniswap’s. While approximately 75% of recipients are holding their tokens, and 7% have purchased more, concerns remain regarding Lighter’s tokenomics, specifically the 50% allocation to the team and investors, which some consider excessive for a DeFi project. Despite a current market capitalization of $678 million and a trading price above $2.71, some investors believe potential gains may be limited to short-term trades without increased trading volume and user retention.
