CoinGecko Ranks Crypto Narratives by ROI — Here’s Which Sector Delivered the Best Returns

CoinGecko analyzed the profitability of major crypto narratives for 2025, ranking 11 sectors by average year-to-date (YTD) return. The report highlights a significant shift away from speculative trends toward institutional alignment, as only three narratives achieved positive returns. Real World Assets (RWA), which involves tokenizing traditional assets, dominated with the highest average YTD ROI of 185.76%, driven by institutional interest and favorable regulatory developments. Layer 1 blockchains followed with an 80.31% return, and "Made in USA" projects gained 30.62%. Conversely, highly popular narratives like memecoins and AI suffered significant losses of 31.61% and 50.18%, respectively. This contrasts sharply with 2024, where AI and memecoins saw massive gains, suggesting a maturing market where investors favor utility and institutional backing over pure hype.
