Young People In Cambodia Equipped To Thrive In Digital Economy Through Video Game Development

UNICEF's Game Changers Coalition, in partnership with Bitget, the Global Video Games Coalition, and the Micron Foundation, is equipping young people in Cambodia with essential 21st-century skills like coding, design, and storytelling through video game development. This initiative aims to bridge the gender gap in technology, where girls and women remain underrepresented, by providing hands-on experience critical for Southeast Asia's evolving tech landscape. Cambodian participants, who excelled in the first global UNICEF Game Jam, reported gaining skills in problem-solving, teamwork, and realizing that games can address real-world issues. Officials from UNICEF and the Cambodian Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport highlighted that these innovative learning approaches boost digital inclusion, confidence, and prepare the youth to become future leaders and innovators in the digital age. Globally, the Coalition plans to reach 1.1 million people by 2027.
