Vitalik Buterin Says Grok Keeps Musk’s X Honest

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin stated that X's AI chatbot, Grok, contributes positively to the platform's truth-friendliness by offering responses that contradict users' expected political biases. He highlighted that the unpredictability of Grok's responses is key to this function, often "rugging" users who seek confirmation for extreme beliefs. Buterin considers Grok a "net improvement" to X, second only to Community Notes, despite concerns about its fine-tuning based on the views of its creator, Elon Musk. However, Grok has exhibited flaws, such as fabricating claims about Musk's abilities, which critics point to as evidence for the need for decentralized AI to ensure accuracy and impartiality. Buterin noted that Grok has been more successful in promoting truth-seeking on X compared to other third-party AI content, even as the broader AI industry faces scrutiny over bias and factual errors in models like ChatGPT.
