ZachXBT Sounds Alarm as Trust Wallet Users Report Fund Drains

Blockchain investigator ZachXBT reported on December 25 that several Trust Wallet users experienced unauthorized withdrawals from their wallets. Although the exact cause remains unconfirmed, the incidents followed a recent update to Trust Wallet's Chrome extension, raising significant security concerns. ZachXBT is actively collecting affected wallet addresses for investigation. This event has renewed scrutiny on browser-based crypto wallets, as Chrome extensions operate with elevated permissions, making them vulnerable to malicious updates or compromised dependencies that can lead to fund theft, similar to past threats involving fake extensions or transaction-modifying helpers. Users are advised to review permissions, avoid new transactions, and move remaining assets to new wallets until Trust Wallet provides a technical explanation.
