MoMA adds CryptoPunks and Chromie Squiggles NFTs to permanent collection following coordinated donation

The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York has significantly endorsed onchain art by adding eight CryptoPunks and eight Chromie Squiggles NFTs to its permanent collection via coordinated donations. These 16 works will be housed in MoMA's Media and Performance department. The CryptoPunks donated included pieces from Larva Labs founders and various community members, while the Chromie Squiggles were contributed by entities like SquiggleDAO and gmoneyNFT, with coordination assistance from 1OF1_art. CryptoPunks, created in 2017, is a foundational NFT project, and Chromie Squiggles is the genesis collection from the Art Blocks platform. This acquisition follows Yuga Labs' move to place CryptoPunks IP under a nonprofit focused on institutional preservation and coincides with renewed trading interest in blue-chip NFTs.
