‘Pay 13 Bitcoin or We Blow It Up’: Hyundai Bomb Threat Shakes South Korean Offices

Hyundai Group evacuated employees from two major offices in Seoul after receiving an email threat demanding 13 Bitcoin, valued at about $1.1 million, threatening to detonate explosives at their buildings in Yeonji-dong and Yangjae-dong. Police responded by dispatching special forces and bomb squads, sealing off areas, but found no explosive devices at either location. Authorities concluded the threat was a hoax, and operations resumed without any payment being made or any damage reported. This incident is part of a recent wave of similar digital extortion threats targeting major South Korean corporations, including Samsung Electronics, Kakao, and KT, all of which also proved to be hoaxes.
