PayPal stablecoin PYUSD tapped for AI infrastructure financing through USD.AI

CoinDesk
PayPal's PYUSD stablecoin will now finance AI infrastructure, including GPUs and data centers, via the USD.AI protocol.

Summary

PayPal is expanding the utility of its PYUSD stablecoin by integrating it into onchain funding mechanisms developed by USD.AI, a protocol that provides credit to AI companies. Loans issued by USD.AI for financing graphics processing units (GPUs), data centers, and related AI infrastructure will be denominated in PYUSD, allowing borrowers to receive proceeds directly into their PayPal accounts. This initiative aims to merge familiar payment workflows with programmable settlement suitable for long-term financing and emerging transactions, demonstrating stablecoins' utility beyond crypto in capital-intensive sectors. The move coincides with surging AI infrastructure demand, projected to reach $6.7 trillion in spending by 2029. To spur adoption, PayPal and the USD.AI Foundation are launching a one-year customer-incentive program offering 4.5% on up to $1 billion in deposits starting in early January.
