UK crypto ownership dropped to 8% in 2025: YouGov poll
Summary
A new YouGov poll commissioned by the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) indicates that cryptocurrency ownership among UK adults decreased to 8% in 2025, down from 12% in 2024, although this figure remains double the 4% ownership recorded in 2021. Despite the drop in the number of owners, the overall amount of digital assets held is growing, showing a trend where small-value holdings decline while large-value holdings increase. The FCA noted that participants in crypto lending and borrowing tend to be more knowledgeable and risk-tolerant. Among those who hold crypto, 57% own Bitcoin (BTC) and 43% own Ether (ETH), with about 21% holding Solana (SOL). The poll results were released as the FCA launched three consultations seeking feedback on proposed crypto market rules for exchanges, staking, lending, and DeFi.
