CME Group Expands Crypto Derivatives With Spot-Quoted XRP and Solana Futures

CoinDesk
CME Group launched Spot-Quoted futures for XRP and Solana, mirroring its existing Bitcoin and Ether contracts.

Summary

CME Group has expanded its cryptocurrency derivatives offerings by launching Spot-Quoted futures contracts for XRP and Solana. These new contracts are structured similarly to CME's existing Spot-Quoted Bitcoin and Ether futures, meaning they track the spot price directly, with financing adjustments handled separately at settlement, avoiding the premiums or discounts common in traditional futures. According to Giovanni Vicioso, CME Group’s Global Head of Cryptocurrency Products, the move responds to strong demand for the existing Spot-Quoted contracts, which have seen over 1.3 million trades since launching in June. These new contracts are CME's smallest crypto offerings to date, targeting active traders who prefer spot market terms without managing rollovers. Concurrently, CME activated Trading at Settlement (TAS) for XRP, SOL, and their respective Micro futures, allowing traders to execute contracts relative to the 4:00 p.m. ET settlement price before it is known, a feature useful for managing risk around crypto ETFs.
