The firm cited a strong concentration of onchain users and booming retail crypto usage across Asia, noting South Korea has the world's second-largest crypto market. Anthony Albanese, managing partner and COO of a16z crypto, stated the expansion will provide go-to-market support for portfolio companies in the region. To lead these efforts, a16z appointed Sungmo Park, formerly the APAC lead at Monad and Polygon, who will focus on bolstering market connectivity and promoting crypto adoption. A16z crypto backs numerous blockchain startups and has raised over $7.6 billion across four funds.
