Blockstream Connects Lightning and Liquid for Faster, Private Bitcoin (BTC) Payments

Blockstream has released an update to its Blockstream Green mobile app that introduces support for trustless atomic swaps between the Bitcoin Lightning Network and the Liquid sidechain. This integration allows users to pay Lightning invoices directly from their Liquid Bitcoin (LBTC) balances without needing to manage complex Lightning channels or inbound liquidity. The swap process is self-custodial, relying on cryptographic hash locks to ensure transactions are either fully completed or entirely reverted. This feature appeals to users who want the speed of Lightning payments but prefer holding their funds privately on Liquid, and it also benefits merchants accepting Lightning payments while securing assets on Liquid. Blockstream plans future updates, including support for on-chain swaps between Bitcoin's main network, Liquid, and Lightning, and receiving Lightning payments on hardware wallets like the Blockstream Jade.
