ZKsync Lite to Shut Down in 2026 as Matter Labs Moves On

Matter Labs has announced plans to sunset ZKsync Lite, the first iteration of its Ethereum layer-2 network, in early 2026. The company views this move as a planned deprecation for the initial proof-of-concept network, which successfully validated critical ideas for building production ZK systems. ZKsync Lite, launched in 2020, focused on basic token transfers but was superseded by the more advanced ZKsync Era, a zkEVM rollup released in March 2023, which now anchors the project's ZK Stack roadmap. The Lite network will remain operational for the time being, ensuring funds are safe and withdrawals to Ethereum mainnet are still possible. Matter Labs will publish a detailed migration plan and shutdown timetable next year.
