Robinhood to enter Indonesia by acquiring local crypto trading firm
Summary
Robinhood announced its expansion into Indonesia, Southeast Asia's largest economy, through agreements to acquire two local firms: brokerage PT Buana Capital Sekuritas and digital asset trader PT Pedagang Aset Kripto. The deals are pending customary closing conditions, including approval from the Indonesian Financial Services Authority, with an expected close in the first half of 2026. Robinhood intends to continue serving the brokerage's existing clients while introducing its signature brokerage and crypto trading services, including access to U.S. equities and digital assets. Patrick Chan, Robinhood's head of Asia, cited Indonesia's fast-growing trading market as the reason for expansion. The majority owner of the acquired firms, Pieter Tanuri, will remain as a strategic advisor.
