Pseudonymous blockchain investigator ZachXBT claimed on December 5th that Danny / Meech, also known as Danish Zulfiqar (Khan), a British threat actor connected to the $243 million theft from a Genesis creditor on Gemini, has likely been arrested by law enforcement, with crypto assets seized.
ZachXBT pointed to approximately $18.58 million in crypto consolidating at a specific Ethereum address linked to the suspect, noting a pattern similar to other law enforcement seizures. The sleuth also alleged that the suspect was last known to be in Dubai, where a villa was reportedly raided and others arrested.
The theft, which occurred in August 2024, involved attackers posing as Google support to trick the victim into resetting 2FA for their Gemini account, ultimately gaining access to private keys and stealing 4,064 BTC. U.S. prosecutors have since filed indictments against several suspects in connection with this and related cryptocurrency scams.
