Solana and Coinbase’s Base connect together using Chainlink
Summary
Base, Coinbase's Ethereum layer-2 blockchain, has launched a bridge connecting it to the Solana blockchain, utilizing Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) to enable seamless, cross-chain asset transfers. This integration is intended to increase liquidity between the two networks, which are both known for low fees and high throughput, often used for memecoin trading. The bridge is live on mainnet for developers and users, allowing for the transfer of assets like SPL tokens to Base, and enabling trading of Solana assets on Base. This connection is a significant technical milestone as it joins an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible chain with Solana's non-EVM architecture. Despite the launch, the price of Solana's SOL token dipped 3% to below $140, and Chainlink's LINK token also dropped around 3% on the day.
