A new bridge connecting Coinbase’s layer-2 network Base and the Solana blockchain is now live on mainnet, enabling users and developers to move assets directly between the two ecosystems. This bridge is secured by Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) and allows for the trading and use of Solana-based tokens, including SOL and other SPL assets, within Base-based decentralized applications (dapps). Early adopters include applications like Zora and Aerodrome. Johann Eid of Chainlink Labs stated that leveraging CCIP ensures secure cross-chain applications and moves the industry toward a reliable interoperability standard. The bridge is open-source, and while Solana is the first chain linked, more connections are anticipated as part of a broader vision for interconnected blockchains.
