Horeb Energy and Veolia Are Mining Bitcoin At 2.5¢/kWh With Colombian Landfil Biogas
Summary
Horeb Energy, a Colombian Bitcoin mining company, has partnered with the multinational environmental services firm Veolia to mine cryptocurrency using green biogas energy sourced from the CIGE Guayabal landfill in the North Santander region of Colombia. This strategic alliance allows them to achieve an energy cost of 2.5 cents per kWh, which is significantly lower than the North American average. Veolia manages the solid waste and biogas valorization facilities, while Horeb Energy handles the advanced biogas filtration, energy conversion into electricity, and the Bitcoin mining operation within a secure, off-grid container. This pilot project, running for a year, has produced nearly 1,000 kWh of 100% renewable energy, demonstrating a sustainable business model that converts methane gas—a challenging waste byproduct—into value and supports the local clean energy transition. Horeb Energy plans to replicate this model across Colombia and Latin America.
