The United Kingdom is reportedly considering banning political parties from accepting cryptocurrency donations as part of an Elections Bill aimed at boosting public trust in politics. This move is particularly relevant as Reform UK, which has embraced digital assets and launched a portal for crypto gifts, currently leads in national polls. Advocates for the ban, including several MPs, argue that digital assets complicate the tracing of funds, increasing the risk of illicit foreign money entering the political system. The debate has been amplified following the jailing of Reform UK's former Welsh leader for pro-Russian advocacy. The forthcoming Elections Bill is also expected to strengthen rules regarding shell companies and require parties to conduct risk assessments on donations that might indicate foreign interference.
