ETH News: Ethereum Developers Prep for Fusaka, Second Upgrade of 2025

Ethereum developers are preparing for the Fusaka upgrade, the network’s second planned upgrade of 2025, set to go live on the mainnet on December 3, 2025. Fusaka, a combination of the names Fulu and Osaka, involves simultaneous upgrades to both the consensus and execution layers. The primary goal of this upgrade is to enhance Ethereum’s ability to handle the increasing transaction throughput from layer-2 chains that rely on Ethereum as their base layer. The upgrade includes 12 code changes, known as Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs), designed to make the layer-2 experience faster and more affordable. A key change is PeerDAS, which allows validators to verify only segments of data instead of entire “blobs,” reducing bandwidth demands and costs. Fusaka also includes minor improvements to Ethereum itself, such as adjustments to the maximum transaction size for security and code optimizations for smart contracts. Institutional interest in the upgrade is growing, with Fidelity Digital Assets highlighting it as a significant step towards a more coherent roadmap.
