CME Group achieved a record single-day volume of 794,903 cryptocurrency futures and options contracts on November 21, surpassing its previous high set in August. This surge reflects growing institutional and retail demand for regulated crypto derivatives used for risk management during unpredictable market conditions. CME's year-to-date average daily volume (ADV) for crypto is up 132% year-over-year to 270,900 contracts, with open interest climbing 82% to 299,700 contracts. Giovanni Vicioso, CME's global head of cryptocurrency products, noted that this acceleration in demand is driven by the need for deeply liquid, regulated tools to manage risk against price swings in assets like Bitcoin and Ether.
