Aztec launches privacy-focused L2 Ignition Chain on mainnet following token sale

Aztec Network has officially launched its Ignition Chain, a privacy-focused Layer 2 solution on Ethereum mainnet, following the start of its AZTEC token sale last week. The team announced this launch as the first fully decentralized L2 on Ethereum, activating the decentralized consensus layer that powers the Aztec Network. The mainnet launch, which enables programmable privacy, followed a public testnet rollout in May, and block production was triggered after the validator queue reached 500 participants. Ignition Chain supports Aztec's vision of a "private world computer" using zero-knowledge proofs to offer end-to-end confidentiality for DeFi applications, addressing Ethereum's transparency issues. The native AZTEC token, used for staking, governance, and block rewards, began its token sale registration last week, attracting about $2.5 million across nearly 2,000 bids, with the general public auction starting on December 2nd. Co-founder Zac Williamson predicted that the next decade will see the rise of privacy-centric services leveraging distributed ledgers.
