CleanSpark Expands Power Capacity by 28%, Secures Texas Site for AI Data Center Push
Summary
CleanSpark announced a 28% expansion of its total power capacity by securing land in the greater Houston, Texas area, marking a significant move into the AI data center market. This strategy follows a trend among Bitcoin miners leveraging existing power infrastructure to serve booming AI computing demand, especially as mining profitability faces pressure post-halving.
The company partnered with Submer, a liquid-cooling technology leader, to deploy AI data centers. CleanSpark will handle site development while Submer provides modular systems and cooling expertise, with current projects totaling over 1 GW and a pipeline exceeding 2 GW. To spearhead this, CleanSpark hired Jeffrey Thomas, former President of AI Data Centres at Humain, as SVP of AI Data Centers.
CleanSpark will maintain its Bitcoin mining operations, having mined 612 BTC in October 2025. The dual-track strategy aims to maximize mining cash flows to fund AI expansion. The Texas site offers access to strong grid infrastructure and natural gas pipelines, with over 200 MW expected to be energized in the first half of 2027. This industry shift is supported by potential regulatory changes favoring faster grid connection times for large power users.
