Berachain Foundation recovers $12.8M from Balancer V2 exploit
Summary
The Berachain Foundation successfully recovered $12.8 million after an exploit targeted its native decentralized exchange, Bex, and the Balancer V2 protocol on the EVM-identical Layer-1 blockchain. The recovery was facilitated through coordination with a white hat hacker. To secure the assets, Berachain distributed a hard fork binary to validators to block unauthorized transfers of the exploited assets, subsequently implementing a hard fork and chain restart. The foundation also worked with infrastructure partners, such as oracle providers, to ensure operational readiness before relaunching the chain, aiming to restore security and user trust.
