HIVE Digital accelerates AI infrastructure push with $1.7 million Canada data-center land deal

Nasdaq-listed HIVE Digital Technologies is expanding its AI and high-performance computing (HPC) operations by purchasing a 32.5-acre parcel in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, for $1.7 million. This site will host HIVE's first Tier III+ facility in Atlantic Canada, designed to house more than 25,000 GPUs and utilize local hydroelectric power. Executive Chairman Frank Holmes stated the move accelerates the transition from bitcoin mining to AI HPC data centers by repurposing renewable energy. This strategy aligns with a broader industry trend, as other miners like Cipher Mining and IREN recently announced massive AI cloud-hosting deals with Microsoft and AWS, signaling a major shift in energy infrastructure driven by AI demand. HIVE CEO Aydin Kilic noted their "dual-engine" model uses bitcoin mining revenue to fund AI build-outs, creating a virtuous loop.
