Akbar Hasan Beklou, CEO of the Tehran Province Electricity Distribution Company, revealed that over 95% of Iran's 427,000 active cryptocurrency mining devices are operating without authorization, making Iran the world’s fourth-largest crypto mining hub. These unlicensed operations consume over 1,400 megawatts of power, severely pressuring the subsidized national electricity grid. Authorities are cracking down, having already shut down 104 illegal farms in Tehran Province and seized 1,465 machines. To combat this, Iran announced in August that it would offer citizens cash rewards for reporting unauthorized mining activities. Iran currently ranks fifth globally in Bitcoin hashrate distribution.
