Faruk Fatih Özer, the founder of the now-defunct Turkish crypto exchange Thodex, was discovered dead in his prison cell at Tekirdağ F-Type High Security Closed Penitentiary, with the death suspected to be a suicide. Özer had been serving an 11,196-year sentence handed down in September 2023 for aggravated fraud and establishing a criminal organization after Thodex abruptly collapsed in April 2021, causing massive losses for investors. He fled to Albania but was later captured and extradited to Turkey, where his siblings and senior employees were also jailed. An investigation into his death is currently underway.
