Unichain L2 adds support for non-EVM assets DOGE, XRP and Zcash

Unichain, the Ethereum Layer 2 developed by Uniswap Labs, announced support for additional non-EVM assets: Dogecoin (DOGE), XRP, and Zcash (ZEC). This expansion follows Uniswap's recent integration of Solana support, signaling an effort to address fragmentation across different DeFi ecosystems. The integration is facilitated through the Universal protocol, which mints and burns tokens to create bridgeable "uAssets." Uniswap Labs clarified that these bridged assets are 1:1 redeemable for their native versions on their home chains, cautioning users never to send them to centralized exchanges or wallets that do not support Unichain. These assets are accessible on Uniswap’s frontend website and can be bridged from their native chains. The addition comes as DOGE is the largest memecoin and Zcash has seen a significant price surge recently.
