Bitcoin rewards app Lolli acquires Slice, accelerating its adoption of the Lightning Network

Bitcoin rewards application Lolli has acquired the Slice browser extension, which rewards users for passive internet activity, following Lolli's own acquisition by Bitcoin infrastructure firm Thesis this summer. This strategic merger aims to unify previously fragmented Bitcoin rewards platforms and enhance earning opportunities for Lolli users, who earn BTC on online purchases.

A key outcome of the acquisition is accelerating Lolli's adoption of the Lightning Network, enabling faster, cheaper withdrawals that make small amounts economically viable, which Layer-1 transactions could not support. This move follows recent controversy after Thesis integrated the Mezo sidechain as a primary withdrawal option without immediate on-chain alternatives, drawing criticism from commentators. Thesis founder Matt Luongo stated they are prioritizing Layer 2 solutions and sidechains while systematically rebuilding the Lolli app, which was initially launched in 2018.
