Telegram’s Pavel Durov unveils decentralized AI network built on TON

Telegram co-founder Pavel Durov unveiled a new decentralized AI network called the Confidential Compute Open Network (Cocoon) at the Blockchain Life 2025 forum in Abu Dhabi. Cocoon is being built atop The Open Network (TON) blockchain to allow users access to AI features without surrendering their data privacy to centralized providers. Users can contribute their graphics processing unit (GPU) power to the network in exchange for receiving Toncoin (TON). Durov emphasized that decentralizing AI is crucial for preserving digital freedoms, arguing that the world has been gradually losing these freedoms over the past two decades due to centralization. Industry executives note that centralized AI poses risks like data breaches and the potential for providers to manipulate public opinion by secretly altering algorithms, making blockchain's tamper-proof, immutable ledger essential for verifying AI-generated data.
