Kyrgyzstan launched the KGST stablecoin pegged to the som and plans a phased pilot for its digital som CBDC with CZ's involvement.

Summary

Kyrgyzstan has launched the KGST stablecoin, pegged 1:1 to the national som currency, following a meeting involving Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ). The country also plans to begin pilot testing for its Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), the digital som, in three stages: interbank transfers, government/social payments, and offline/low-connectivity payments. The digital som pilot is being developed in partnership with crypto firm Build block TECH. Furthermore, President Sadyr Japarov instructed the creation of a state cryptocurrency reserve, which CZ announced would include BNB tokens. The KGST stablecoin is intended for international settlements and will eventually integrate with the digital som to enhance cross-border payments, as crypto transaction volume in the country has significantly increased.
