Bitcoin App Relai Secures Historic EU Approval Under MiCA Framework
Summary
On October 23, 2025, the Swiss-founded, Bitcoin-only application Relai received a Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) license from France's financial regulator, the AMF. This approval is historic because it grants Relai a "passport" to operate across all 27 European Union member states under the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation, putting it ahead of many larger exchanges still navigating the process.
MiCA, fully effective at the end of 2024, standardizes crypto rules across the EU to protect investors and ensure stability. For Relai, this means one license covers the entire bloc. The approval allows Relai to introduce features like instant SEPA payments, higher trading limits, and enhanced security for European customers.
Co-founder and CEO Julian Liniger expressed pride in the milestone, emphasizing its importance for Bitcoin adoption. Relai, which focuses exclusively on Bitcoin, plans to expand first in France, followed by the rest of Europe, leveraging its recent $12 million Series A funding to support this growth.
