Revolut, Blockchain.com and Bitcoin app Relai score MiCA licenses with Plasma likely to follow
Summary
Fintech giant Revolut, along with Blockchain.com and the Swiss Bitcoin app Relai, have successfully obtained Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) licenses. Revolut, which serves over 65 million customers, will use its license from the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission to offer comprehensive crypto services across all 30 European Economic Area (EEA) markets. Blockchain.com received its license from the Maltese Financial Services Authority, allowing it to scale services like custody and treasury tools across the EU. Relai secured its license from the French Financial Markets Authority (AMF) and plans to expand into France first. The new MiCA framework requires newly designated crypto-asset service providers (CASPs) to obtain these licenses, though a grace period exists. Other firms like Kraken, Gemini, and Bitvavo have also secured these licenses. Separately, stablecoin-focused Layer 1 blockchain Plasma is working toward its MiCA license after obtaining a VASP license in Italy and opening an office in Amsterdam.
