Berachain joins race for real-time blockchains with sub-second transactions

The Berachain community is considering a governance proposal, BRIP-0007, to implement an optional "fast lane" using a preconfirmation layer to reduce transaction inclusion times from two seconds down to approximately 200 milliseconds. This mechanism adds a sequencer that bundles transactions into partial blocks, providing near real-time feedback to users and DApps for latency-sensitive activities like DeFi swaps and gaming, making them feel instantaneous. Crucially, this preconfirmation layer does not alter the core consensus design; final settlement still occurs within the standard two-second block cycle. The design prioritizes safety, reverting to the default cycle if the sequencer fails. Berachain follows other networks, including Ethereum L2s and Base, in exploring preconfirmation concepts to enhance user experience.
