Ledger Nano Gen5 Debuts Affordable Hardware Security for AI-Driven Digital Identities

Bitcoin Magazine
Ledger launched the Ledger Nano Gen5, an affordable security device supporting AI-driven digital identities and crypto asset protection.

Summary

Ledger, a leading hardware wallet company, announced the Ledger Nano™ Gen5, its newest and most advanced security device, priced affordably at $179, which is less than half the cost of the Ledger Stax.

The Gen5 features an EAL 6+ certified secure element, a 2.76-inch E Ink touchscreen, and connectivity via USB-C, Bluetooth 5.2, and NFC. It includes a "Ledger Recovery Key" smart card for secure seed phrase backup via encrypted NFC. Significantly, Ledger is rebranding its devices as "signers" instead of hardware wallets to emphasize their expanded role in securing digital identities, aligning with the shift towards AI-driven identity management and supporting the FIDO2 Passkeys standard.

Beyond crypto, the Gen5 supports advanced security features like "Clear Signing" and integration with dapps. It also introduces new financial capabilities through integration with Noah (Cash-To-Stablecoin), allowing users to top up with fiat and instantly convert to stablecoins like USDC. Ledger CEO Pascal Gauthier positioned the Gen5 as the "new signer for everyone," ready for future challenges while continuing to secure existing crypto transactions.
