‘I’m prepared to go to prison’ to stop UK CBDC, Reform leader Nigel Farage says

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, while promoting his party's pro-crypto agenda at Zebu Live, strongly condemned the concept of a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), calling it a "total and utter horror" linked to digital ID plans. He declared he is "prepared to go to prison" to stop CBDCs. Farage also pledged that if Reform UK wins the next general election, he would introduce a Crypto Assets and Digital Finance Bill. This legislation would aim to make the UK a crypto hub by establishing a "bitcoin digital reserve" in the Bank of England, cutting capital gains tax on crypto assets from 24% to 10%, and preventing banks from closing accounts due to crypto transactions. Farage cited his own 2020 experience with debanking as the catalyst for viewing crypto as the "ultimate freedom of the 21st century."
